Just a 3-hour flight from the Netherlands, you will find the most special nature in Europe in Iceland: from waterfalls to ice lakes and from geysers to volcanoes. It is a perfect country for a nice road trip. Start in the pleasant capital Reykjavik. Here you can also spot whales. Then drive past beautiful waterfalls or visit the highlights on the Golden Circle Route. From October to March you have a good chance of spotting the Northern Lights, a natural phenomenon that you should absolutely see once in your life. While in the middle of winter the sun only shines for 4.5 hours a day, in the summer it shines for 21 hours. Very special to experience.
